Description
This test case tests whether, when using the radeon video driver, X can successfully shut down and restart. You must be using a card supported by the radeon video driver.
Setup
- Ensure the nomodeset and radeon.modeset=0 kernel parameters are not set in your bootloader configuration
- You can see your current kernel options by running
cat /proc/cmdline
- You can see your current kernel options by running
- Ensure the file
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
does not exist, or is a valid file that uses the radeon driver - Shut your system down entirely, then start it up again
- If using a live image to test, ignore the above steps and simply boot the system from the live image with default options
How to test
- Log in to the desktop
- Press ctrl+alt+f2: this should switch to a console interface
- Log in as root (if you are using the live image, you can do so, there is no password on the root account)
- Run the command
systemctl stop display-manager.service
- If necessary, hit ctrl+alt+f2 again to get back to the console you are using
- Run the command
systemctl start display-manager.service
- If necessary, hit ctrl+alt+f1 to get back to the graphical interface
- If necessary (on live images, you may be automatically logged in) log back into the desktop
Expected Results
- After running the first command, the graphical desktop should stop running
- After running the second command, the graphical desktop should start up again
- X should work properly both the first and second times it is started
