We need more videos on the Fedora YouTube account. (See Pagure #258) My proposal is to have a short series of videos from community members called "I am Fedora".
Community members would record themselves answering the following questions:
- What is your name?
- What do you contribute to Fedora (if you're a contributor)?
- How do you use Fedora?
- Why did you choose Fedora?
- What's one interesting thing you'd like people to know about you?
At the end, they would say "I am <name>, and I am Fedora"
The marketing team would edit the video to insert title cards and then post the final video to YouTube.
Benefits
- Content is easy to produce compared to demos and how-tos (which are also good to have)
- Not tied to a particular timeframe, so we can publish at the pace submissions come in
- Gives us a chance to highlight the people behind Fedora, not just the technology
- Can tie in with the "How do you Fedora?" series in the Magazine. (i.e. we can embed the video in the article)
Drawbacks
- Requires getting contributions from the community at large
- Not likely to get search traffic
Open Questions
- How do we solicit contributions? We could put calls out on social channels, mailing lists, record some at Fedora events, etc.
- How do people get the video to us? A central upload location would be best, but they could also upload to the sharing service of their choice.
Tasks
- Design team to create title cards
- User:Bcotton to create an example video
- Create an "I am Fedora" badge to award to participants
