n 2009, he initiated the [http://www.hanthana.org Hanthana Linux Project], a Fedora remix that has made significant strides. This project has been implemented in numerous government schools locally and downloaded over [http://sourceforge.net/projects/hanthana/files/stats/map?dates=2009-09-13%20to%202050-12-31 60,000 copies globally]. The Hanthana Linux Project has empowered the local community to contribute to the global FOSS movement. School students, teachers, university students, and other users have actively participated by promoting FOSS, identifying software issues, and compiling essential documentation. Some have even reported bugs and issues to the upstream projects, such as Fedora, LibreOffice, and others, after understanding the correct bug reporting process.

In addition to his work with Fedora, Danishka collaborates with various FOSS communities, including Mozilla, LibreOffice, Gnome, KDE, the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project, and the Sugarlabs Foundation.
