In the early 90's he joined the German Army for 12 years where he was NCO (Rank E-8) in a data processing unit in the first 4 years. He trained and worked in databaseprogramming(Generalized Information System) on UNIX Mainframe Computers. Later he changed to another unit and attended a UNIX based GIS System ([http://www.deutschesheer.de/portal/a/heer/kcxml/04_Sj9SPykssy0xPLMnMz0vM0Y_QjzKLNzSLtzB0BslB2Rb6kZiiBs5IokEpqfre-r4e-bmp-gH6BbmhEeWOjooAL_Mmaw!!/delta/base64xml/L2dJQSEvUUt3QS80SVVFLzZfMTZfOEE1?yw_contentURL=/C1256F870054206E/W269WHTG810INFODE/content.jsp HEROS] ) for display location and situation in battle scenarios. During the last 4 year he led the Information Management Department in the same Unit and improved his knowledge in IT Security. At the same time in 1996 he used Linux to join smaller units on one Information System via RAS, supported by a colleague and friend ([http://www.web42.com/crenz crenz] ). He learned quickly that RedHat was the Distribution for his requirements - like now Fedora - and decided to dedicate a part of his life to the FOSS World.

After his time in the Army he worked 2 years as an instructor for an it-training-center. During this time he also promoted Linux in several presentations and scripts. He changed to the HIC AG in 2004 and was in charge for the company IT. Today he is working as a Technical Consultant in the Security Team of HIC AG.
From 2004 to 2006 he joined the ldap workgroup of bwcon:boss to work on new schemes, new concepts and to encourage and enable the ldap interoperapility between different foss projects.

Also during that time he joined the Fedora project. Starting with his first FUDCon in 2005, he is contributing to multiple groups in the Fedora Project - doing administrative work as a former FAmSCo Chair and a Fedora Board Member. He is one of the founding members of the Fedora EMEA e.V. NPO. His main focus in Fedora today is: the work on Community Development, the Fedora Security Spin, Fedora mailing list and membership administration and working on strong support for Fedora in the former eastern bloc.

OSS related work

I work on Fedora - since 2005 - to bring in or bring back OSS Security Test Applications like dsniff, unicornscan or others along with the Fedora Security Lab as the current maintainer of the Fedora Security Spin. I served as Member of the Fedora Board in 2010-2011 and as the FAmSCo Chair till December 2010 for the Fedora Ambassadors Steering Committee. To increase the Quality of the Ambassador Membership Process, i developed and established a new mentoring process. Till recently i dedicated a large part of my time to the Ambassador Membership Service (FAMA) to guide new Contributors as a sponsor and mentor into the Fedora Project. And my other "everyday" Job in Fedora is to take care of the EMEA Budget and Payments to reimburse our Contributors and sponsoring_event_attendees - i also worked out the Community Credit Card Process and i also maintain some fedora mailing lists as Administrator.

Besides all this i always try new MarketingMaterials producing SWAG for us - or work as PressOfficer for the Fedora EMEA e.V. and help as one of the few Fedora in Library Activists. I initiated a few things which today are essential parts within Fedora Ambassadors, like the AmbassadorPolo or the well known generic Posterdesigns from MairinDuffy. Promoting Fedora on Events is also a major part of a Ambassador and so i work as organizer, driver, helper, slogger, promoter on a lot Events every year, supported by my Company. I contribute also to other OpenSource Projects like the LDAP Workgroup BW, the ISECOM and to the null community
