Welcome to the Fedora Free Media Program.

If you would like to hear how we have been getting on, please read our news page. Lots of information about the places we have sent discs to and various stats and updates on our mission.

This is a volunteer initiative by local Fedora Ambassadors and contributors to distribute Fedora Media (DVDs) for free to individuals who can't afford to buy or download Fedora.

There is no funding from Fedora for this initiative. The media comes from volunteers from around the globe that coordinate their efforts using Fedora Infrastructure. The number of discs is limited to the resources of those volunteers and so we encourage you to make sure that you have no other means to get a copy, for instance local events, local groups or Ambassadors, or by downloading. This will mean we can reach more people who really can't get a copy in any other way. If you have any questions about the FreeMedia program, consult Susmit, Neville or Frank.

What you can expect to receive, other than working Fedora media, depends on what the volunteer can afford or is able to send - there are no rules.

There are a range of styles that get shipped depending on the individual volunteers resources :

This is important
These are not professionally produced discs and we don't promise anything other than a functioning copy of the media you request.

So please bear in mind that whatever you receive is due entirely to the generosity of the person who sent it. An emailed "Thank you" would be nice if you can spare the time, as it lets us know that it arrived, and that it worked as it should.

The purpose is to provide content not media.

Another thing that we like people to do is share the disc you get with your friends. Why use a disc once when it can be useful to so many other people ? If you can't afford to send discs to people, then tell them to request a disc from us if they can't download or buy one, and lend it to who-ever might need it. That way we all save money, and more people get to enjoy Fedora.

If you would like to join the group then it is easy to do, and you will be joining a group of friends who are all helping to spread Fedora around the world. We only ask that you send 2 discs per month and we have so many requests that we need all the help we can get.

Even if you can't join the group, please consider contributing by making a donation of whatever you can afford.

Thank you !
