== Summary ==
Support GPS receivers out of the box and provide a map application.

I'm not a developer so I can't work on this myself. I'm hoping for someone to pick this up.
== Current status ==
* Targeted release: [[Releases/17 | Fedora 17]]
* Last updated: 2011-10-29
* Percentage of completion: 0%
== Detailed Description ==
Detect GPS receivers and install required packages and a map application automatically.
This would ideally be implemented with [http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/GeoClue GeoClue], [http://gypsy.freedesktop.org/wiki/ Gypsy] and [http://projects.gnome.org/emerillon/ Emerillon].
There is also [http://catb.org/gpsd/ gpsd], [http://www.tangogps.org/ tangoGPS] and [http://www.gpsdrive.de/ GpsDrive]. [http://gypsy.freedesktop.org/why-not-gpsd.html This page] makes the case for using Gypsy instead of gpsd and Emerillon has a much nicer UI than either tangoGPS or GpsDrive.
== Benefit to Fedora ==
GPS is a cool technology and incresingly common. Supporting GPS receivers out of the box would be a nice feature. No distribution currently does this, as far as I know.
== Scope ==
* [https://live.gnome.org/Emerillon/Plugins Emerillon does not yet have a GPS plugin.] This would need to be written.
* Emerillon also seems to be missing an icon.
== How To Test ==
Have a bunch of common GPS receivers and make sure they are detected out of the box.
== User Experience ==
The user will see the map application in the menu, start it and be asked if he or she wants to enable the GPS receiver (we probably don't want to enable it automatically).
== Dependencies ==
None.
== Contingency Plan ==
None necessary, revert to previous release behaviour.
== Documentation ==
None that I'm aware of.
== Release Notes ==
Fedora now supports many common GPS receivers out of the box and and includes the Emerillon map application.
== Comments and Discussion ==
