Latest revision as of 11:01, 18 December 2014

Location and Date

  • Leverkusen, Germany
  • Arrival: Friday, 2014-12-05 & Departure: Sunday, 2014-12-07

Accomodation and stay

Travel Info

  • Via Airplane: Two large international airports, CGN and DUS, are equally easy to reach
Note: Düsseldorf-Weeze (serviced by Ryanair) is misleading and nowhere near Düsseldorf or the venue (112 km). It will take you more than 2 hours and about 50€ for a round-trip to the venue.
  • Via Train: Via Deutsche Bahn stops Köln Hauptbahnhof and Leverkusen Mitte
  • Closest Bus station: Parkstr., Leverkusen-Hitdorf (VRS transport association)
  • Free parking is available right in front of the venue

Getting to the venue

A typical journey to the venue would consist of Plane, Train and Bus or Train and Bus.

General note: You need to buy your ticket before getting on the bus or train. Buying tickets is usually only done with cash (€). When transferring from a train to a bus just show (as in walk by and hold up) the ticket you bought at the train station to the driver.

From Cologne Airport (CGN)

  1. Visit the web site of VRS which is the transport association for the region Rhein-Sieg
  2. As "From"-station enter "Köln/Bonn Flughafen Bf"
  3. As "To"-station enter "Parkstr., Leverkusen-Hitdorf"
  4. You will be shown multiple trips ranging from 1:00 hr to 1:20 hr
  5. Chose the one you prefer. All trips will include 2 transfers. The first is always at "Köln Messe/Deutz" (as this is where the trains usually change the side of the river Rhein). The second one will be from Train to Bus at either "Leverkusen-Mitte" or "Rheindorf". All trips will offer you a nice ride through Cologne so you can see the Dome ;-)

From Düsseldorf Airport (DUS)

  1. Visit the web site of VRR which is the transport association for the region Rhein-Ruhr
  2. As "From"-station enter "Düsseldorf, Flughafen Bahnhof"
  3. As "To"-station enter "Leverkusen, Hitdorf, Parkstr."
  4. You will be shown multiple trips ranging from 0:50 hr to 1:20 hr
  5. Chose the one you prefer. This trip has between 1 and 3 transfers. The site will tell you that no fare calculation is possible. That is because Leverkusen is part of the VRS transport association and Düsseldorf has the VRR. However, you can buy a ticket that allows you to go from Düsseldorf to Leverkusen. The ticket is price category 3 and costs 5€.

Purpose & Impact

This FAD is an annual planning event for the EMEA community. The most active ambassadors from various countries get together to discuss what activities we should do in the next year, what events to attend, what swag to produce. The main outcome of this event is an EMEA budget proposal for the next fiscal year which includes a list of events we will spend money on, Fedora media production, and swag production. If this event didn't take place it would have a significant impact on our activity in the region in the next year. because doing such complex planning via emais and IRC would be very complicated, the budget proposal might not even be created.

Suggested Solutions for Video Conferencing

  • appear.in - based on WebRTC, works in all recent browser including mobile ones, no accounts needed, limit 8 people per conference
  • Hangouts - working and scalable solution, Google account needed, proprietary protocol, requires a proprietary plugin in browser
