* Rawhide fully updated (some tips below). Remember, Rawhide is an unsupported development branch: use an installation you don't mind getting broken.
* Rawhide or Fedora 11 Beta fully updated.
* FAS Account - you can create an account in 3 minutes if you don't have one
* FAS Account - you can create an account in 3 minutes if you don't have one
* Selinux enabled. If you need to run in permissive mode please file a bug against selinux
* Your hardware profile uploaded to Smolt according to these instructions

Update your machine to latest Rawhide
Update your machine
See the instructions on the Rawhide page on the various ways in which you can install or update to Rawhide.
See the instructions on the Rawhide page on the various ways in which you can install or update to Rawhide. Or:

Make sure powertop is installed on your machine.
Live Image
The tests can be run in various levels of accuracy depending on your system and additional equipment. For laptops the tests should be run on battery power so powertop can record the power usage. For normal systems use of a wattmeter like the ones from Watts Up can help record the power usage instead.
Optionally, you may download a non-destructive rawhide live image for your architecture. Tips on using a live image are available at FedoraLiveCD. And install to disc

# Run powertop -d
# Run powertop -d on battery mode (laptops only)
# Run powertop -d with a wattmeter

Additionally if you install kernel-devel and kernel-debuginfo you can additionally install tuned-utils and run additional monitoring tools:

The results of those can be combined with the results from the various powertop runs.

For automated recording we've written a script that checks for the various tools necessary to record the results and saves the available results in several files and makes a tarball of them via your system-id.

Report your results
* For First two tests (Personal, Tuned): During each of the tests for additional information please run the following script as root.
* If you have problems with any of the tests, report a bug to Bugzilla.
* If you are unsure about exactly how to file the report, just ask on IRC and we will help you. Once you have completed the tests, add your results to the Results table below.
* The first column should be your name with a link to your User page in the Wiki if you have one
* and the second should be a link to your Smolt hardware profile (see above for a link with instructions on submitting your hardware profile to Smolt).
* For each test case, primarly see instruction in testcase (most of them generate some outoputs which is important, so please upload file into right column in table). Except test of bluetooth, there should be only PASS or FAIL (in case FAIL please report bug and add link)
* Upload the files generated as you ran the test cases. You will get an error page after each file upload - don't worry, this is normal. After performing the upload, go to the File list page and you will see your upload at the top of the list. The URL to use when you add it to the table is the one labelled '(file)'.

Latest revision as of 21:15, 26 June 2015

DATE TIME WHERE
Thu April 02, 2009 From 12:00 to 00:00 UTC (7am -> 7pm ET) #fedora-qa)

What to test?[edit]

Today's instalment of Fedora Test Day will focus on:

Who's available[edit]

The following cast of characters will be available for testing, workarounds, bug fixes, and general discussion ...

What's needed to test[edit]

Use caution
Remember, rawhide is a development branch. Use an installation you don't mind getting broken.

How to test?[edit]

Update your machine[edit]

See the instructions on the Rawhide page on the various ways in which you can install or update to Rawhide. Or:

Live Image[edit]

Optionally, you may download a non-destructive rawhide live image for your architecture. Tips on using a live image are available at FedoraLiveCD. And install to disc

Architecture MD5SUM
i386 f5852f27e324fb87f4d060abf44d16dc
x86_64 195e48300a94c65289ffdb20d4eeb2d4

Latest syslinux package?
Creating a LiveUSB of this rawhide image requires the latest version of syslinux, which is currently available in Rawhide and in the latest Windows liveusb-creator. Users of F10 and below can upgrade to the latest syslinux package using
yum --enablerepo=rawhide update syslinux
.

Test[edit]

Follow each of these test cases:

Don't adjust your glasses
The links above have been updated modified to point to the test cases originally executed when this test day was held. Since then, the test cases have been modified for newer power management test days (for example Test_Day:2009-10-22).

Report your results[edit]

 • For First two tests (Personal, Tuned): During each of the tests for additional information please run the following script [1] as root.
 • If you have problems with any of the tests, report a bug to Bugzilla.
 • If you are unsure about exactly how to file the report, just ask on IRC and we will help you. Once you have completed the tests, add your results to the Results table below.
 • The first column should be your name with a link to your User page in the Wiki if you have one
 • and the second should be a link to your Smolt hardware profile (see above for a link with instructions on submitting your hardware profile to Smolt).
 • For each test case, primarly see instruction in testcase (most of them generate some outoputs which is important, so please upload file into right column in table). Except test of bluetooth, there should be only PASS or FAIL (in case FAIL please report bug and add link)
 • Upload the files generated as you ran the test cases. You will get an error page after each file upload - don't worry, this is normal. After performing the upload, go to the File list page and you will see your upload at the top of the list. The URL to use when you add it to the table is the one labelled '(file)'.
