The System Planning Guide is designed to assist users new to Fedora and new to Linux in getting ready for their first Fedora installation. Detailed installation instructions can be found in the Installation Guide. The purpose of this guide is to prepare the new user for decisions the installation process requires, and to introduce the new user to key concepts around using an Open Source operating system.
Goals
Goals for the System Planning Guide are:
1. Introduce new users to high-level concepts about how Fedora and Linux work. 1. Help new users make good decisions about aspects of the installation process which are not self-evident, such as:
- Disk partitioning
- Firewall setup
- Package selection
Non-Goals
The System Planning Guide is not intended to address the following:
1. Step-by-step installation procedures. This is the purpose of the Installation Guide. 1. Detailed technical instructions on system administration
