Font description template

Foreword

• This template plays a huge part in the lifecycle of our font packages.
• Use it to create « Name_Font » or « Name_Fonts » pages:
  • Name_Fonts should be « Foo_fonts » and not « FooFonts_fonts » or « FooFont_fonts ».
  • use the Foundry Name convention if necessary (i.e « SIL_Abyssinica_fonts » good, « Abyssinica_SIL_fonts » bad).
• Frames that use this style are redaction tips. Please remove them from your page once they are no longer necessary. Do the same for the lorem ipsum bits.
• Remember the more complete and accurate the information you add is, the more likely a font is to be packaged and widely used.
• Do not forget to update the page categorization once the font status changes.

Requester
Fill in the following information:

• Homepage ① is a link to the font project upstream home, for example DejaVu.
• Format ② we prefer modern OpenType (TTF/OTF) fonts, and Unicode encoding is mandatory. If the font includes advanced smart font features such as locl or hinting, please document them too.
• License ③ should correspond to an entry on our legal page. If that's not the case please follow the procedure documented on that page to check the license acceptability.

Packager

• Once a package has entered the review stage, add a Review reference ④ such as 181994. You can reference this wiki page in your review request as additionnal information. Please do not forget to CC fedora-fonts-bugs-list@redhat.com on your bugzilla ticket.
• Once a package has been approved, add the corresponding:
  • Koji page ⑤ pointer (for example dejavu-fonts).
  • pkgdb page ⑥ pointer (for example dejavu-fonts).

Requester

• Add as many lines as necessary in the preceding table. Be careful not to mix faces with different characteristics on the same line (for example if a font bundle includes a serif font with a regular and bold face, and a sans-serif font with regular, bold, italic and bold-italic faces, use two different lines).
• Use ✘s to indicate a common feature is present.
• Other features can be filled this way:
  • other styles ①: fantasy, cursive, etc,
  • other faces ②: condensed, extralight, etc,
  • other scripts ③: list the corresponding IS0 15924 codes. Tools like gucharmap or fileformat's online test can be used to check coverage if upstream's information is not clear enough.

Reviewer
List there the elements you know of that will impact packaging activity, such as licensing that needs clarifying, an upstream that uses a specific non-english language to communicate, broken or incomplete build scripts, etc.

Packager
Take care of those items and remove them from the page once they've been dealt with.

Fonts in Fedora
The Fonts SIG takes loving care of Fedora fonts. Please join this special interest group if you are interested in creating, improving, packaging, or just suggesting a font. Any help will be appreciated.

Requester
You MUST replace the Category:Fonts SIG and Category:Documentation tag with Category:Font wishlist.

Packager
You MUST replace the Category:Font wishlist tag with:

• Category:In-progress fonts for a font being worked on, but not available in Fedora yet. Typically in packaging review stage.
• Category:Packaged fonts for a packaged font, available in Fedora.
• Category:Rejected and retired fonts for a font we decided not to package after review, or removed from current Fedora repositories for some other reason.

Requester and packager
You MAY additionnaly tag your page with one of the following categories:

• Category:Decorative fonts for a font used in titles and other short runs of text, typically requested by the artTeam.
• Category:International fonts for a font with unusual unicode coverage, typically requested by the internationalization project or a localization team.
• Category:Technical fonts for a font with coverage of technical unicode blocks (math, engineering and other non-text blocks).
