Revision as of 20:28, 10 March 2009
Images for the picture book should be of high quality. You don't have to be a professional photographer, but composition, focus, and lighting are vital to communicating a strong message. If in doubt of your photography skills, feel free to ask a friend or post your idea to fedora-marketing-list@redhat.com to see if we can find someone in your area who's willing to help.
Images must contain at least one person doing something Fedora-related.
A release form must be signed by each person in the photo and the photographer. The release form allows the subjects' likenesses to be used in the picture book and releases the copyright of the image to Red Hat under the CLA.
Submitting your image
- Make sure you have a FAS account with a signed CLA and access to the wiki.
- Confirm that you have: the image (in a high enough resolution — at least 5" on both sides at 300dpi, putting the minimum dimensions at 1500x1500px), release forms of everybody in that image, and a "story" to go with that image.
- Upload your image.
- How to name your image: If there is one person in the shot, Lastname-firstname-####.jpg is the template. Use a four digit number (zero pad if necessary) starting with 0001. If there is more than one person in the shot, iterate the last names from left to right to produce Lastname-lastname-lastname-####.jpg. If you have questions contact Ian Weller.
- Include the following in the image description:
- Names of the people in the image, from left to right if applicable
- Necessary information about the photo (perhaps it would help to have context of where the photo was taken, or FAS account names of subjects if applicable)
- Individual "stories": use Template:Picture book story for each subject like so:
{{picture book story|Subject's name|Story}}
- Release form check templates: use Template:Picture book release form check for each subject like so:
{{picture book release form check|Subject's name}}
[[Category:Picture book photos]]
at the end of the description. Ensure that you have added the photo to that category, because we won't ever see it if you don't.
- After uploading your image, be sure to click the "watch" tab at the top of the page, and confirm that your preferences will send you an email if a watched page is changed. This will help you keep track of release form approvals and other important information.
- Write the name of the image in the appropriate field on the release form.
- Mail your release form to the appropriate location.
