Revisor How To
This page will provide a number of guides explaining, step by step, how to use Revisor in different use cases. They assume you already have Revisor installed.
Respin Fedora With Custom Packages
Firstly, launch Revisor from the menu entry found under Applications > System Tools. Once Revisor has started follow through the initial screens, selecting appropriate configuration options as needed. For example, if a live CD based off Fedora 7 is desired, select Optical Live Media from the Select Media Types screen, and on the following screen the default configuration will be appropriate. For details on how to base the media off another Fedora release, or use a custom repository, please see the Revisor Documentation with instructions on how to achieve this. This screen can also be used to configure the output directory of the final disc image.
Again, on the next screen the sample kickstart configuration file should be sufficient. If this is not the case, however, and details on how to create a new kickstart configuration file are needed, please refer to the how to dealing with this issue. To customize the package manifest, one of two options are available:
- Select Use package manifest from kickstart data under Advanced Options and select Customize package manifest defined in kickstart data
- Deselect Use package manifest from kickstart data.
Revisor moves on to the Package Selection dialog, which has the same interface as Pirut. Categories are on the left, with sub-categories on the right. To select a sub-category, and to allow customization of individual packages within that category, mark its box with a tick by left clicking it. To customize the packages selected within that category, highlight it and select the Optional Packages button. It is possible to select, or remove, all optional packages within a sub-category by right-clicking and selecting the appropriate menu option. Once satisfied with the package selection click Forward and Revisor will begin resolving dependencies.
Once dependencies have been resolved, Revisor provides some final pieces of information regarding the image that is going to be created: number of packages included, and the total size of the selected packages. If this is satisfactory, click Forward and Revisor will being assembling all the required packages, and building the media. The disc image will be output in the target directory specified earlier in the configuration process.
To burn the disc image from within Gnome, navigate to the directory where it is, right-click the file and select the appropriate menu option.
