Name the Fedora IoT Edition
We need your help naming the Fedora IoT Edition. Submit your nominations below. Note that this is a "brand" name, not a per-release name.
Name suggestions
Put your name suggestions below. Please don't submit anything we can't accept (trademarks, names of living people, obviously offensive terms, etc). If it has a connection to a term understood by the IoT or edge device communities, please include an explanation.
Suggested Name | Suggested by | Explanation |
---|---|---|
Crown | alfalco | In reference to the crown of a fedora hat. |
CharIoTeer | bcotton | It has "IoT" in it (this is not a real suggestion, just an example) |
Edgy McEdgeface | pbrobinson | Because it's the law! |
Edge | tdawson | The boring, but logical name |
SilverBlueServer | tdawson | Because it's the SilverBlue tech, for servers |
IogurT | lruzicka | Because everyone likes it and it has IoT in it, if you change spelling a bit, thus everybody gets it. |
Frontier | lorbus | The 'leading edge' |
IoT Edge | lorbus | Catch all, boring but logical |
Orbit | lorbus | On the edge of the known galaxy. Would also play nice with possible alignment with CoreOS in a future not so far far away... |
Tiny | yaneti | Because the goals align. Think OpenWRT but Fedora (where possible) |
Nookless | darkaxl017 | nothing offline (Fedora Nookless rocks! ...I think :) ) |
Fedora IoT | kparal | simple, clear, consistent, everybody already knows it |
MiniBlue | torbuntu | Uses rpm-ostree tech like SilverBlue, but for IoT devices |
NanoBlue | torbuntu | Same reason as MiniBlue but Nano has a different ring to it |
Verge | lhc130 | Synonymous to Edge |
Everywhere | Till | Because it will be |
Brim | Till | It's the edge of a Fedora |
Conductor | sgallagh | These devices will be directing the endpoint devices like a conductor directs an orchestra |
Orchestra | sgallagh | Similar to above, but includes the musicians as well |
Wintermute | sgallagh | One half of a super-AI entity from Neuromancer |
Proletarian | sgallagh | Basically an underpaid worker! |
Things | schlauerlauer | Simple and descriptive |
Light | schlauerlauer | Because it is a light fedora, running on light devices |
Hub | sumantrom | A lot of devices will connect to it and it will be a hub |
Nucliya | sumantrom | important part of a cell, has "Cli" on it and cells are the building block |
Altair | sumantrom | Brightest star of in the night sky, even though its star, its not spherical but flat kinda like a iot board. |
