About me
I'm a final-year MS Software Systems student with a strong passion for open-source and Linux systems. I started my coding journey in early 2023, primarily focusing on Python. My academic pursuits are driven by my interests, and I make it a point to document what I learn. I've completed two internships at the same startup[1], where I worked as a Software Engineer intern for four months and later as a Research Engineer intern for five months.
Before diving into coding, I spent three years, from 2015 to 2018, working as a PC hardware technician at my father's PC hardware store. I gained hands-on experience building, diagnosing, and troubleshooting older-generation PC hardware, making some really good memories and learning a lot in the process.
In addition to my technical background, I've worked on various side projects, including poster design, logo design, and graphical and vector designs, using tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Corel Draw. These experiences have given me a balanced skill set in coding, design, and hardware.
Open-Source Community Participation
GirlScript Summer of Code 2024
Project Administrator (October 2024)
Manage the overall project organization, faciliate contributor on-boarding, and ensuring smooth collaboration among participants & mentors. Overseeing the project documentation, tracking progression, mentoring & supporting participants. Implement best practices for communication and workflow to foster an inclusive, collaborative environment.
Project Mentor (May 2024 - Aug. 2024)
Building on my experience from JGEC Winter of Code, I was selected as a mentor for the GirlScript Summer of Code. In this role, I guide beginners and enthusiasts in contributing to the "Scrape Up[2]" project, a Python package for web scraping that extracts data from platforms like GitHub, Twitter, and Instagram. Mentored over 26 contributors, including 17 new contributors, guiding them through interactions and onboarding to help them understand the project’s framework and contribute effectively.
JGEC Winter of Code (Jan. 2024 - Mar. 2024)
After using Fedora Linux for a year, I became increasingly curious about the open-source community. This curiosity led me to participate in the JGEC Winter of Code, where I actively contributed to the development of the EagleView[3] image manipulation Python package. My contributions included implementing an RGB view feature and revamping the documentation to enhance usability and performance. My efforts were recognized, and I ranked 23rd out of 184 participants.
