Challenges Faced
These are some of the challenges faced by our contributors in the APAC region for the past year.
Issue Description | Cause | Countries | Contributors Affected | Priority | Proposed Solution | Remarks |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
People do not care/understand about Free Software or importance of Linux. | Don't want to change what already works. | Singapore | Woo Huiren | Medium | Good narrative required to convince people? | NIL |
Lack of contributors helping to organize events. | Lack of availability from existing contributors and insufficient new contributors | Singapore | Woo Huiren | High | Unsure | NIL |
Lack of contributors in organizing events. | Lack of availability from existing contributors and insufficient new contributors. Most of existing Ambassadors are too busy for their dayjob | China | Zamir SUN and others in China | High | Unsure | NIL |
Open Source is popular in China in a wrong way | Enterprises use Open Source as a way to get people's attention for joining events etc., but they do not actually do much to Open Source in events, they simply promote their commercial products. This makes people do not like Open Source events in some bit. | China | Zamir SUN and others in China | High | Unsure | NIL |
Lack of contributors in organizing events. | Lack of new contributors. There are 3 ambassadors in Taiwan, and one of them is inactive. | Taiwan | Cheng-Chia Tseng and Freedomknight in Taiwan | Medium | To talk more about how to be an ambassador in local events? | NIL |
Lack of packagers. | Lack of contributors. For example, gcin input method is still popular in Taiwan, but the package is not maintained and hard to enable in GNOME. | Taiwan | Cheng-Chia Tseng and Freedomknight in Taiwan | High | Most of wiki pages about RPM are translated. We hosted workshop on RPM packaging in 2016 but not lack of attendees. Unsure how to improve | zsun: In the short run, I will help to get gcin back to Fedora. |
