About Me

I have no past involvement with the Fedora Project. I've volunteered a little bit for Mozilla by translating some pages on MDN and joining the Army of Awesome. The only code contribution I made to an open-source project was a small unit test fix for Stem (Tor Project).

What are you studying? Why?

I'm studying Computers and Information Technology at Polytechnic University of Timisoara. I chosed this faculty because I started to learn programming by the end of highschool by myself and I wanted to continue on this path.

What motivates you to do your best? How do you stay focused? Briefly describe how you organize your work.

I'm very motivated to do my best when I'm interested in the subject, also, when I interested I can remain focused for hours, usually I sit at my desk with the laptop in front on me and some chill music in the background. I do organize my coding work with Github and keep my notes in Microsoft Onenote.

Why Us? Why do you want to work with the Fedora Project?

I would like to work with the Fedora Project because I want to get involved in the open-source community and this project seems to have a lot of guidelines on how to get involved in different sub-projects.

Do you plan to continue contributing to the Fedora Project after GSoC? If yes, what sub-project(s) are you interested with?

Yes, I want to remain and contribute to the Fedora Project after GSoC. I'm interested in programming (C and Python), writing docummentation, translating pages and be active in the community.

Why This Project?

I chosed "389 Directory Server: developing administrative tools" because it maches my skill range, Python. I also think that it will be a little challenging and interesting because I get to learn a lot of new things.

Have you contacted the mentor(s) listed for the project?

Yes, I did contact him and asked for feedback (if he has time) on my proposal.

What relevant experience do you have for this project?

I'm experienced with Python, Git and Unit Testing. Last summer I wrote lots of unit tests in C for an automotive company where I have an internship job at the media team.

What do you want to gain from this project?

I want to gain new connections, the ability to cooperate better with others in the free software development environment, learn more about Fedora Project and sharpen my programming and software development skills.

Describe this project in your own words. What does it mean to you? What do you think the final deliverable is?

I think the final deliverable would be a command line or gui tool that will make the configuration of the 389 directory servers easier.

Why should we choose you over other applicants?

I like the idea of open-source. I'm ready to try and learn new things and make use of what I learned until now.

Propose a rough schedule for this project. Ideally you will have regular deliverables throughout the entire period.

Week 1-2: Learn about 389 directory servers and deploy one.

Week 3-4: Study perl and bash and attempt to code.

Week 4-6: Continue with coding, documentation, unit tests

If I finish early I could work on other projects, fix bugs, update libraries, write tutorials, write unit tests, update existing documentation and translate pages.

What are you specific plans from May to September (eg: Exams in university, internships, vacations..etc).

If I get accepted I will quit my internship job.

My classes end on 04.06.2017 and my exams on 25.06.2017.

There is a music festival in Timisoara that I'd like to go a few hours per day 01.06.2017-03.06.2017.

Other than that, I don't have any other plans.

I'll be busy 1 or 2 days when I'll move to a new location. I'm currently staying in the student campus.
