Fedora Performance

This page documents the ongoing efforts to improve overall performance including but not limited to decreasing bootup time, reducing footprint and improve application startup and responsiveness.

Improving Bootup Time

See DefaultServices for a detailed attempt at reducing bootup time by tracking down unnecessary default services and fixing them or documenting the necessarity of them enabled by default otherwise

Refer to http://people.redhat.com/berrange/systemtap/bootprobe/ for using SystemTap which is included in Fedora Core 5 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Update 3 and above.

Application Responsiveness

See https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2006-January/msg00141.html for a initial attempt at benchmarking differences between themes in GNOME desktop
