Why do you want to work with the Fedora Project?
The first time I saw Linux, was Red Hat Linux on an old laptop of my father around 2002; I was simply amazed by those green boot messages, the blue grub screen and strange ways of communicating with it using the terminal. From that moment on, I was hooked to Linux, messing with it, breaking it & repairing it. I learned a lot from that, came to know about FOSS, and wanted to become a part of it, so I could see my code used by millions.
Today Fedora is what I use, and I love the way it is always running to keep the latest versions - it is great for developers - keeps you out of messing with the dependency hell. Also it is fully open source, and has a live developer community that is a major contributor to many projects that are part of most other distributions too. It would be an honor to be part of such a community.
Do you have any past involvement with the Fedora project or another open source project as a contributor?
Not yet and I believe this summer is the perfect opportunity to get started. All the time I have worked on large projects at my University, but unfortunately I am limited by the participating entities to share code. And that is why I am desperate to turn to open source.
Did you participate with the past GSoC programs, if so which years, which organizations?
No, this will be the first time.
Will you continue contributing/ supporting the Fedora project after the GSoC 2013 program, if yes, which team(s), you are interested with?
Yeah! Definitely! I'm looking forward to getting involved beyond this small timespan of GSoC and make new friends from FOSS. I would love to become the maintainer / developer of a project at Fedora. I'm interested in developing both desktop and cloud related technologies.
I also have general visions of how the gnome desktop environment could be modularized to make both development and performance faster.
Why should we choose you over other applicants?
I believe is myself, and am not afraid of spending hours of time learning things and figuring out issues. I will also stick to the community for a long time. I'm a Linux geek, can figure out any issue with a Linux box, and completely understand what happens down the rabbit hole. I can work with git and other command line tools effortlessly.
Technically, I have a strong CS background in algorithms & programming. I can code in C\C++\bash\Python\PHP effortlessly.
