Event Description
LinuxTag is a free software expo and conference with an emphasis on Linux. It is relatively large, in 2011 over 11.500 visitors from around 30 nations, claiming that it is the largest expo of this kind in Europe. The LinuxTag byline is as always "where .COM meets .ORG". This includes both representatives from not-for-profit/community projects and from companies.

Transport
to the hotel
- From Berlin Spandau station take train S5 to Strausberg Nord
- or
- from Berlin Hauptbahnhof (Hbf) central station or Ostbahnhof station take any of

from the hotel to Linuxtag
From Charlottenburg take S5 to Spandau and exit at Messe Süd. Follow the signs to Messe and LinuxTag.
To return, walk to Messe Süd, take S5 to Strausberg Nord and exit at Charlottenburg.
Tickets
- There are urban rail trains ("S-Bahn"), underground ("U-Bahn"), trams ("Metro-Tram, mainly in the former eastern part of Berlin), local trains ("Regional-Express", "Regional-Bahn") and buses.
- Berlin has 3 different tariff zones: A, B and C. Nearly all destinations are within Berlin AB.
- A single Berlin AB ticket is 2,40 EUR. It's valid for 2 hours, you can use all urban, underground and local trains, trams and buses and change as you like.
- You can also buy a 4-trip ticket for 8,40 EUR.
- A day pass is 6,50 EUR, a week pass 28,00 EUR.
- There also is the "Berlin Welcome Card", valid either 2, 3 or 5 days. More expensive than the day/week pass but gives you free entrance to some sightseeing spots and museums. Don't buy, unless you plan to go there!
