WHAT IS LOCALIZATION SPRINT ?

Localization sprint is an online or physical gathering, for a dedicated time, that helps people to get involved and contribute this whole alloted time at the sprint for translating Fedora projects. This involves more of discussions and interactions within the community, effective & productive and quality translations helping to increase the translation percentage for Fedora. Localization sprints can be organised broadly involving all language communities or each language community can organize individually within their own language community for that particular language. Online sprints :

  • Discuss with own community members, fix a date and time in such a way that there is more participation. (the event can be one or two days depending on the time available.)
  • Decide an IRC channel to conduct the online sprint.
  • Inform the community well in advance and make sure you communicate to all through mailing lists, social media etc (popular communication channel within the community)
  • Get all the participants on the sprint IRC channel on the date and at the time decided.
  • Its advisable a person take the lead of the sprint to conduct the sprint in an organized manner.
  • Take a roll call, introduce each other, then give all an introduction on how things work in community, about Fedora translation project (If there are any new members this is required)
  • Start working/translating on the files/folders (Each community members within a language should have an understanding or coordination on the files being worked for that langage). Doubtful strings or phrases or word meanings can be discussed on IRC channel and get going.
  • It would be good idea to note down the translation start status so that one can measure the amount of work completed and how much a language team has achieved end of the day/sprint.

Physical sprints/meetups :

  • Decide on a venue with good internet connection where you can accommodate all the participants (All participants must bring their laptops else if the venue is any school or college lab, ensure you have enough number of systems with all the translation requirements)
  • Fix a date and time (Could be one or two day event)
  • If there are have new members, give a small session on how translation projects work in Fedora community, about the guidelines and style guides used for translations. As per requirement one can decide on the amount of time to be spend for this session.
  • Get going with the translations as mentioned above.
