What is off-topic? Off-topic messages do not follow the topic for the mailing list they were posted to. For example, a question about using a particular program in a recent Fedora release is off topic on the devel list. You should select a more appropriate mailing list for your message and post it there instead.
Below are some of the key mailing lists and their purposes. You can find more by visiting our Communicate page. There, you will also find information about other methods of communication, such as IRC.
If you have questions, you should also check some of the resources on the wiki before you ask them on the mailing lists. Many questions can be answered here. To get started browsing the wiki, visit the FedoraMain page.
users@lists.fedoraproject.org
This mailing list provides community assistance, encouragement, and advice for using Fedora. It is often the starting-point for new Fedora users starting to interact with the community, and the place for everyone to ask questions and have general discussions about the use and configuration of software in Fedora.
devel@lists.fedoraproject.org
This list is where discussion regarding the development of Fedora takes place. If you are not a Fedora developer, you probably have no business posting here. This is not for end-user questions -- those should go to users@lists.fedoraproject.org.
test@lists.fedoraproject.org
This list is where discussion regarding Fedora's development branch (Rawhide) takes place. If you are running the development branch of Fedora, and have problems specific to this version, this may be the place for you. General questions which apply to other versions should usually go to users@lists.fedoraproject.org instead.
docs@lists.fedoraproject.org
Discussion regarding Fedora's documentation and content tools takes place here. If you are writing or editing Fedora Documentation, this is the place for you. This is not for questions about Fedora or requests for documentation, unless you are offering to help write the content for your idea.
marketing@lists.fedoraproject.org
This list is where discussion regarding Fedora's global marketing strategy takes place. Contributors who are interested in helping to spread Fedora and solicit new contributors to the project can participate here.
ambassadors@lists.fedoraproject.org
Ambassadors are Fedorans who promote and spread the word about Fedora locally at events, meetings, and so forth. This list is for discussions amongst Ambassadors about event coordination and other tactical or project business needs.
websites@lists.fedoraproject.org
The Websites Project is the team that works on the design and applications that are in front of Fedora Infrastructure work. Everything from the Wiki to Web-based tools on fedoraproject.org is the purview of this list.
