Event Description
The NASA Space Apps Challenge is an annual hackathon event organized by NASA. Each year, several locations across the globe organize local events. This year, one of these local events is happening at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Students from the university and surrounding area come to RIT for a weekend of programming and contest. They create things, solve practical problems, and compete for prizes from NASA.
Google's definition of a hackathon: An event, typically lasting several days, in which a large number of people meet to engage in collaborative computer programming.
Why attend this event? RIT is a school known for its participation in open source and is one of the only schools in the country to have a Free and Open Source Software minor. At this event, there are will be between 40-60 students who are passionate and interested in programming or development. This event is organized by the FOSS@MAGIC program, giving students a chance to either become more exposed to open source software or share their enthusiasm with others. This is a great opportunity for Fedora to make an impact at a university level, following along with the University Involvement Initiative set forth by the Fedora Council.

- 2:00pm: Speakers from the RIT Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation, "Simulating and Discovering Gravity Waves"

- 5:00pm: Hacking ends
- 5:30pm: Presentations
- 6:30pm: Dinner and judging
- 7:30pm: Awards
- 8:00pm: Hackathon ends / clean-up
