Renaming master to main brings makes no sense
I am totally against this change. It brings no benefit. It politicizes this. How many tickets have we got about somebody letting us know they won't participate in any of our projects due to our use of "master" as a main branch in git? This is beyond stupid and it servers no other purpose than a political one. Renich (talk) 17:27, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Renaming master to main makes sense
Hi Renich, I appreciate your earnest passion on this topic but your opinion is not universal. Fedora making this change does not politicize the issue. On 2020-06-23, the Software Freedom Conservancy announced on behalf of its member project, git, that git would change its default branch name in new releases. GitHub did the same in October 2020. Whether we want to admit it or not, other projects and communities are using this new default anyways. In addition to being courteous, kind, and respectful to our fellow Fedora Friends (a key Foundation of our community), we can also adapt for changes upstream just like we always do with software here in Fedora. --Jflory7 (talk) 22:03, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
