Destructive vs Non-destructive installation methods

User:Gerd recently edited one of the recommended installation command lines:

I'm curious about why the --reset-mbr option was added to the livecd-iso-to-disk command under the 'Preparing the USB stick' section of this page, https://fedoraproject.org/w/index.php?title=How_to_create_and_use_Live_USB&diff=0&oldid=173537#Preparing_the_USB_stick.

The earlier section, 'Run livecd-iso-to-disk script, https://fedoraproject.org/w/index.php?title=How_to_create_and_use_Live_USB&diff=0&oldid=173537#Run_livecd-iso-to-disk_script, covers the destructive installation method, if needed.

I think that the page is long and needs to better structure the installation options to avoid confusion and get users more easily to the information they need. --Fgrose 19:12, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

See User_talk:Gerd. Gerd had an anomalous case. --Fgrose 15:18, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

MoinMoin vs MediaWiki

The following metadata was found in MoinMoin that could not be converted to a useful value in MediaWiki:

Warning about "UNetbootin May Not Work"

There is currently a warning on the top of the page that says "The Fedora Project has received numerous reports relating to using Fedora Live USB keys made with unetbootin. You may want to use the official livecd-tools or liveusb-creator referenced above to make Fedora Live USB keys". I (the upstream maintainer of UNetbootin) haven't heard of any such reports recently. Is this warning still valid with current versions, and if yes, where can I see these reports? Gezakovacs 01:47, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

The admonition has been changed and linked to a more current bug status from the common bugs page. --pfrields 13:44, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Only bootable item?

Is the installation meant to be the only bootable item on the USB medium? I creates a few folder in the root folders with generic names. So is having different release/version (32 bit/64 bit, older releases) in the same USB key (mine can hold 64GB) not supported?

- Yes, the installation or live image is meant to be the only bootable item on the media. It is certainly *possible* to make a multiboot USB image, but the documentation covers only using the media as shipped. Pete Travis (talk) 00:58, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Q & A and a place for questions?

Where can users ask questions and seek help? I have been trying to create a Live USB with persistent data overlay, but with no luck. Where can I post questions? Which group should I join?

I recommend #fedora IRC channel on irc.freenode.net. You will have to register a nick first. Sdgathman (talk) 12:04, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

OS X

An OS X users reported that dd bs=1M does not work, and that dd bs=1m does. I made the change in the wiki, but not being an OS X user, I wonder if this could change depending on OS X version. In that case, the edit needs to suggest trying both. Sdgathman (talk) 12:08, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
