This is a free form page to work on slogan ideas. Please add ideas to the table below. As we solidify the ideas and work towards the slogan, the page which change to reflect that.
Ground rules
- The slogan should be short.
- The slogan should be an active sentence, like a command.
- F8: Go higher.
- F9: Make waves.
- F10: Fire it up.
- The slogan should reflect one or more of the themes from the artwork created by the Artwork team for this release. Check out the art here. It's more important to fit the artwork theme than the four foundations shown in the #Keywords section below.
- The slogan should be positive, and reflect the idea that Fedora helps the user achieve something great.

New slogan ideas
Slogan | Submitter | Notes |
---|---|---|
"Leonidas; primus inter paris" | Gerold | Latin the language and home of Leoniday with a nice message like king of the kings |
"Feline." | shanix | |
"Reign of Empowerment." | jasonbrown17 | Goes along with the new slogan of the logo, "Empowered by Fedora." |
"Be king." | Lion is king of the jungle and beasts. Fedora is king of distros! | |
"Run proudly." | Elicits feeling of running free, plus uses "proud" like a lion ("pride of lions"!). | |
"Put your roar on." | More than two words, but very evocative. Lions roar, and so can Fedora users. Roaring can also mean speed and power. | |
"Ferocious." | Not a verb phrase, but it has alliteration. Possible negative: might be poorly translated as "mean" instead of the connotation of "powerful, unafraid." | |
Fedora 11 : The Roar of the Lion made Free or Fedora 11 : Free as the Roaring of a Lion | Jose Damian Garrido | |
"Reign." | mizmo | |
"Rule your world." | mizmo | |
"Lead the pack." | mizmo | |
"Lead the pride." | mizmo | |
"Inspire others." | mizmo | |
"Incite freedom." | mizmo | |
"Call the shots." | mizmo | |
"Command your world." | mizmo | |
"Roar for freedom." | mizmo | |
"Follow the Lion of Freedom" | Ben Lambrechts | |
"Freedom soaring with lions roaring" | Felix Kaechele | Seriously, this is just for fun. But I thought it might be good for inspiration ;-) |
"Freedom roars!" | Felix Kaechele | |
"Rock 'n roar" | Felix Kaechele | |
"Roaring to Life" : "I came, I saw, I roared" : "Royal Blue" : "Pride Nation" : | Harish Pillay | I came, I saw, I roared is a play on Veni Vidi Vici. Royal Blue and Pride Nation just for inspiration. |
"Take the blue Kingdom" | Gerold | it's the offer to step in the Fedora Distribution which is the Kingdom of Linux |
"Come to where the Lion is" | Gerold | |
"Enjoy the blue side of Linux" | Gerold | there is only one colour in Linux which everybody should use as a desktop user, the BLUE one, not the green, red, brown or other colour |
"Let it ROAR!" | Hutchint | |
"Roar with Pride" | Frankly3d | |
"Let freedom roar." | stickster | |
"Mesmerize leading with freedom" | Rashadul Islam | |
"Lead together!" | Kostas Antonakoglou | A call to be first and share success. Leonidas was a leader. Lions are leaders. Fedora is a leader. "Together" is the our community. |
"Run with Pride" | rbergero | |
"Innovate with Pride" | rbergero | |
"Roar first" | Pablo Hernández Borges | Lions lead in their natural environment as Fedora leads, and not follow. |
"Be proud" | Pablo Hernández Borges | Fedora has taken a new whole level on this release, so we have to be proud of it. |
"Be a proud king" | Pablo Hernández Borges | Same as the one before but with the word 'king', meaning Fedora goes first and is the king. |
"Reign with pride" | Pablo Hernández Borges | The lions reigns with pride in nature, as Fedora reigns in the free software being the first. |
"Reign like a king" | Pablo Hernández Borges | There are many leaders, but the Lion is the king, as Fedora must lead like a king. |

Obsolete ideas
These ideas came out of the original "Greek landscape" artwork. Some are still viable but most of these do not follow the ground rules.
Slogan | Submitter | Notes or reasoning |
---|---|---|
"Rev the Revolution" | coolg5 | With a whole slew of wide changes in the release, the slogan seems apt. |
"Features Reloaded" | RangeenBasuRoyChowdhury | Just like the Matrix Reloaded. Sounds really catchy. Though I am not sure whether we can use the idea as Matrix Reloaded must be patented |
"Move mountains." | Paul W. Frields | Mountains appear in the theme. To move mountains is to do something powerful and great. This slogan is here to provide an example, if nothing else. |
"Fedora - Friends of Freedom or alternative - Freedom to Innovate" | Rahul Sundaram | "Greeks are known for their unique culture but also their work as a team. We Fedora folks are also community oriented and freedom combined. The first slogin emphasizes the community aspect a bit more. The second slogan is because of the enormous amount of new features in Fedora |
"Freedom, come and take it." | Pierros Papadeas | "Come and take them" is a famous spartan saying, combined with one of the 4F. Also "Come and take it" should be considered as an viable alternative. |
"Picture perfect." | Ian Weller | haha you think I have reason. ;) Mostly inspired just from the F11 artwork that's being worked on. |
"Freedom and Power" | Ben Lambrechts | Maybe it is better the other way: Power and freedom. |
"Freedom Akademia" | Ewan Luca | Plato's Akademia was a place for informal meetings of free thinkers witch became, by the power of knowledge, a well known and respected institution. Now, an academy holds the pinnacle of achievement in the respective field(s). If the slogan need a verb could be "Grow with Freedom Akademia", "Succeed in Freedom Akademia", "Get endowed by ...", "Empower yourself in ..." - many of the attendants of Plato's Akademia went on to became politicians and leaders using skills and tools acquired there (rethorics, logic, etc) |
"Come get some" | moixs | Ok, this is a reference to Duke Nukem 3D, could be from the movie 300 too. This could also mean come get some Fedora DVDs, this tasty software :) |
"All Paths lead to Fedora" | Binod Chandran | Modified from "All Roads lead to Rome".Changed "roads" to "paths" to relate with web paths |
"A Tradition of Freedom" alternate: "Keep the tradition of Freedom" (or "a tradition") | Nicu Buculei | We are going with some traditional Ancient Greek cultural symbols, Greece was known for its democratic/freedom roots, we have at Fedora a tradition of Freedom. |
"Goes to 11" / "Turn it up to 11." | Michael DeHaan | Spinal Tap. Enough said. Pretend it is about our Feature Knob. We should make a nice graphic for this with the knob of a Marshall-esque amplifier turned to 11 with a Fedora logo on it. electric knobs (cc-by-sa) |
"Fedora 11 : Freedom from heaven." | Kostas Antonakoglou | Well, eleven rhymes with heaven. Also, it is inspired from the theme (green field etc). My suggestion is an example, it could be expressed in many ways... |
"Freedom continues." | Michelle Thompson | Freedom continues over time (comparing ancient times to now), and freedom is one of the key words, and I can imagine that the artwork symbolizes both freedom (open spaces, etc.) and continues (the mountains, sky, etc. don't just end after the artwork; they themselves continue). BONUS possibility for some visual play (depending on the font / image used):
F 1 1 Freedom Continues |
"Fedora 11 : A Code of Freedom" /
"Fedora 11 : A dream come Freedom" / "Fedora 11 : First Friends of Freedom" |
Jose Damian Garrido | |
"Fedora 11 : Function follows Freedom." | Yannik Stadelmaier | According to the phrase "form follows function". |
"Fedora 11 : Join the free nation." | Edney Matias | From the 300...modified indeed. |
"Fedora 11 : Spread it." | Mostafa Daneshvar | The verb 'spread' can be used with our Foundations meaningfully |
"Strength through Freedom" | Ben Lambrechts | |
"Fedora 11: Keep on running!" | Yannik Stadelmaier | According to Leonidas the athletic |
"Fedora 11: Inspiring Freedom" | Tiago Vieira | "Everything that is really great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labor in freedom." Albert Einstein. |
"The story never ends - first friends features freedom" | Gerold Kassube | New counts, more than 10; and we are first friends with freedom and features or we are features of freedom and were friends first |
"Blue does matter" | Gerold Kassube | The color is the difference of everything and the color is a reason (stolen from Godzilla which was in the US Size does matter) |
"think different - be Fedora" | Gerold Kassube | we're all thinking and acting in a different way, in new ways, in the Fedora way |
"Fedora - History is yesterday" | Gerold Kassube | "Fedora - today we ride the history of tomorrow" |
"Win the Freedom Olympics" | Ewan Luca | |
"strength through freedom" | Bert Desmet | |
"Follow the Lion of Freedom" | Ben Lambrechts | Because I like the King Concept of Samuele Storari |
"The secret of happiness is freedom. Fedora is freedom ! " /
"Learn the Features of happiness are Freedom, and the First Friends of Freedom are courage." |
Kevin Higgins | Because I like the Thucydides quote (Ancient Greek historians and author, 460-404bc) “The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage.” My Father who uses Fedora since F4 came up with the Shorter slogan. |
Old themes
- If the Greek temple stays in the background, note that it provides some thematic element:
- Greece was the birthplace of democracy.
- Philosophers, great thinkers
- Platonic forms? Socratic dialogue? Euclidean geometry?
- Landscape
- Mountains
- Wide open sky
- Birds -- The birds may disappear, don't rely on them.
