Laptop Testing for Fedora 8
In the lead-up to Fedora 8, I'm trying to test as many laptops as I can with the live images to see what works and what doesn't.
Known bugs of rawhide-20071012
- sound starts muted by default
- nm-applet segfault

Acer
Acer Ferrari 1000
- Radeon RS485 comes up in correct resolution
- Wireless does not work (Broadcom 4328); not even detected by b43
- Sound via headphones works
- Needs some keymap quirks...
- Volume buttons need quirks.
- Brightness keys work, no OSD
- Suspend/resume doesn't work (needs quirks)
Acer TravelMate 2480
- 945GM graphics come up in correct resolution
- Wireless uses b43 and works
- Sound works, but headphones only
- Volume buttons work
- Brightness keys actually change brightness, but no OSD
- FIXME: Needs keymap quirks
- Suspend/resume works
Asus
Asus A8JS
- Tested with rawhide-20071012 live usb (32 and 64bit kernels)
- Wireless (iwl3945) works
- Graphics (nVidia GeForce Go 7700, nv driver) comes up at correct 1440x900 resolution for panel
- VMX enable-able; kvm works
- Wired ethernet (rtl8169) works
- Sound (ICH7 audio) works, but you have to go into the mixer and unmute the front channel.
- Brightness keys work
- Volume keys don't work. Not detected by kernel at all?
- Suspend doesn't work (nv driver? or USB hosage?)
Asus F3Sc
- graphics comes up fine (nVidia GeForce 8400MG, nv driver)
- wireless is 3945, works
- Brightness keys work
- Sound works once I enable the front channel and turn up the volume there
- Media keys do nothing; not detected by the kernel.
- FIXME: Need to try VMX
- Suspend/resume breaks the same way as on all nv hardware.
Apple
Apple MacBook 13"
- Core2 T7200 @ 2 GHz
- Sound works once you show and unmute the front channel
- Graphics (i945GM) work
- Wireless (ath 5418) isn't even recognized by the module
- Volume keys have weird toggled Fn behavior
- Volume keys will be set with us+inet
- Suspend and resume worked
Apple MacBook Pro
- 15", 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4MB of cache
- Graphics come up at the right resolution (nv driver)
- Brightness keys don't work
- Sound only works via headphones jack
- Wireless doesn't work; 5418 chip isn't supported at all by ath5k
- Suspend hits the same problem as other nvidia boxes
Apple MacBook Pro 15"
- Core Duo @ 2 GHz
- Sound works once I unmute the front channel
- Graphics (Radeon X1600) uses vesa. avivo works at native resolution.
- Wireless is recognized, but can't scan for networks
- Wired network (sky2) works
- Volume keys have weird toggled Fn behavior; will be setup properly with us+inet
- Brightness keys bring up OSD but not a slider of current status
- Suspend/resume works with vesa and avivo
Apple Powerbook G4 12"
- test3 live from dvd
- boots fine, hal hangs
- no firmware
- graphics comes up fine
- sound works
- brightness keys work
- no suspend (nv graphics)
Apple Powerbook G4 17"
- Sound works
- Brightness keys do nothing but apparently work under a real install
- Volume keys will be right with new rhpl
- Wireless will work with firmware installed
- RV350 video, wobbly windows work
- Resume mostly works; hits the resume from CD bug
- Nothing set up for alt-click
Dell
Dell D600
- rawhide live from cd; no usb boot in bios
- ATI R250, 1024x768
- ipw220 wireless
- sound started muted. bringing up volumes makes it work
- brightness is hardware
- Sound keys are us+inet; should be fixed with new rhpl
- suspend and resume works. except for weird cdrom resume lockdep warning
- windows wobble
Dell Inspiron 7500
- test3 live from cd, no usb boot in bios
- but sloooooowooowwww
- 256 megs of ram doesn't work so well. but hardware came up okay
Dell Inspiron 9300
- ipw2200, works
- radeon X300, wobbly windows work
- Brightness works, no OSD but bits in dmesg. Patch sent for hal-info
- Sound keys are us+inet
- Suspend and resume works
Dell Latitude D620
- sound works
- brightness works; OSD shows but isn't percentags

Dell Latitude D820
- Sound works
- Brightness keys work, OSD doesn't reflect changes
- Volume keys are mapped; us+inet
- Graphics works (GeForce Go 7400, nv driver)
- VMX is enabled, but disabled in the BIOS
- 3945 wireless, works
- Suspend/resume hits the normal nv bug
Dell Precision M65
- Wireless (iwl3945), graphics (nVidia Quadro FX 350M, nv driver), sound work
- Brightness keys work but no OSD; logs unknown key events
- Sound keys are us+inet
- VMX enabled in BIOS
- Video doesn't come back from suspend (nv?); matthias says it works on installed system
Dell XPS M1330
- rawhide live usb
- graphics (i965GM), wireless (iwl4965) work
- Sound works through headphones; speakers do not
- VMX works
- Brightness keys work. OSD can't show status
- Sound buttons not recognized by kernel. jkeating sent patch to hal-info, but not included

HP/Compaq
HP/Compaq 6910p
- rawhide live usb (32 and 64bit)
- vmx disabled in bios
- brightness mostly works. weird point at the bottom
- iwl4965 works
- sound works (muted by default)
- sound buttons are hardware so no display of changes
- radeon x2300, so vesa and stretched screen graphics
- avivo works when manually configured and comes up properly at native res (1280x800)
- suspend resume works. and post-resume, graphics aren't stretched
- avivo suspend/resume fails
- authentec fingerprint reader, so no worky
- evdo is unknown
HP Pavilion dv6000
- Sounds works
- Brightness keys work, OSD reflects changes
- Volume keys work (us+inet)
- Graphics (GeForce 6150 ToGo, nv driver) comes up at right resolution
- SVM enabled and works with KVM
- Wireless (b43) works
- Suspend/resume hits the normal nv problem
HP Pavilion dv8000us
- sound works; keys are us+inet
- brightness works, but no OSD. no messages
- wireless works
- radeon X200M (rs480). no working 3d/compiz
- suspend and resume doesn't work. Probably needs quirk. Nalin investigating
HP Pavilion zd7000
- Sound works
- Sound keys work.
- Brightness keys work, but no OSD
- Graphics works (nv driver)
- Wireless hard hangs the box on driver load (b43legacy). Need to boot live image with 'blacklist=b43legacy' (new option)
- suspend/resume is standard nv problem?
HP nc8000
- Graphics works (RV350) including compi
- Volume keys are standard us+inet
- Brightness keys don't seem to work but the keyboard on the machine is a little broken (physically)
- Wireless is Atheros (AR5212). And it sort of works. Gets scan results. Unable to associate to rh-wireless
- Suspend/resume hangs
HP/Compaq 6515
- X doesn't start with vesa or avivo. Passed off to ajax
Compaq Presario V2000
- Graphics (915GM) works at right resolution. Wobbly windows work
- Sound works
- Brightness keys work, no OSD
- Volume keys work
- Wireless (ipw2200) works

IBM
IBM Thinkpad X31
- 256 megs of ram. Doesn't work so well for full testing :-/
- Hardware seems to work okay from some manual poking
IBM Thinkpad T43
- Wireless ipw2200 and Wired ethernet works
- Graphics (915GM) - Max. Resolution 1024 x 768
- Desktop effects - Work !!
- Sound does not work, out of box
- Brightness and volume control works with OSD
- Suspend works, Hibernate does not wake up
- Fingerprint reader - Works with thinkfinger

Lenovo Z61t
- Tested with rawhide-20071012 live usb
- Wireless (iwl3945) works
- Graphics (Intel 945GM, intel driver) comes up at correct 1440x900 resolution for panel
- VMX enable-able
- Wired ethernet (tg3) works
- Sound (ICH7 audio) works. Sound is controlled by hardware buttons.
- Brightness keys do the right thing with OSD from gpm
- Volume buttons are hardware, no OSD
- Suspend doesn't work (USB hosage?)
Lenovo T60
- Sound works. once unmuted (see known bugs.) Sound keys don't show anything but work (need tpb)
- Next/Forward/Play/Pause work.
- Brightness keys work.
- Bluetooth hotkey does not work.
- VMX enabled in BIOS
- Wireless works, well, as much as iwl3945 ever does.
- Suspend and resume works, including suspend hotkeys. Resume breaks pulseaudio
- Graphics work, including compiz (i945GM)
