Description

KDE upstream features a networkmanagement applet.

Setup

  • Computer/notebook with an internal or external wireless/ethernet card
  • Boot to KDE Plasma Desktop, the networkmanagement applet icon appears in the system tray
  • Make sure you have the latest version
  1. Use yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing libnm-qt libmm-qt kde-plasma-nm
  2. Run kquitapp plasma-desktop && kstart plasma-desktop

How to test

  1. Connect to your local network
    1. Configure an ethernet or wireless connection
    2. Try to connect to the configured connection
  2. Create a shared wireless connection
    1. Click on the configure button/panel at the bottom of the applet
    2. Click on "Edit connections"
    3. Create a new shared wireless network
    4. Connect to the newly created shared network
  3. Try to configure a modem connection (if you have a modem)
    1. Install "kde-plasma-nm-mobile" package
    2. Open connection editor
    3. Add a mobile broadband connection and follow the steps in the wizard
    4. Try to connect to newly created mobile connection
  4. Try to create various connections with different configurations or edit existing ones
    1. Open connection editor
    2. Add a new connection or edit an existing one
  5. Check connection details for your connections
    1. Click on some connection in the applet
    2. Click on the button in the right top corner

Expected Results

  1. Connect to your local network
    1. You are correctly connected
    2. The applet icon represents your actual connection
  2. Create a shared wireless connection
    1. You are sucessfuly connected to your shared network
    2. You are able to connect to this network from another computer/phone (not applicable for ad-hoc mode which is not supported by Android/iOS)
  3. Try to configure a modem connection
    1. You've successfuly created a modem connection using the wizard
    2. You are connected to the newly created modem connection
  4. Try to create various connections with different configurations or edit existing ones
    1. Newly created/edited connections are stored correctly
  5. Check connection details for your connections
    1. All connection details are valid and displayed
