About your project

  1. What is the name of your project?Welcome wizard
  2. Does your project come from an idea on the Summer Coding 2010 ideas page? If so, provide a link for reference, as well as a link to any discussions with mentors about your proposal. Summer_Coding_2010_ideas_-_Welcome_Wizard
  3. Describe your project in 10-20 sentences. What are you making? Who are you making it for, and why do they need it? What technologies (programming languages, etc.) will you be using?

Here what I have to implement is a user signup wizard which is more user friendly, guided, attractive and professional. Need to be user friendly because users doesn't tend to do such sign up thing by finding out how to do it. Need to be guided because if not then user may miss some parts in the registering. For example I did complete the CLA in registering for fedora when it required to creating the proposal. This is because it is not guided to fill the CLA. The third one is attractive, because one who started the signing can attracted to it until it ends. As the last one it should be professional because the one who use this should feel the professionalism of the work he involve in. The targeted user are every one who are joining fedora. This in need for the users because the the users of existing signup is not fulfill either one of the above discusses properties. As I discussed with Mike to making this it should use TurboGears and python. I also hoping to use xml,php and java-scripts.

  1. What is the timeline for development of your project? The Fedora Summer Coding work period is 11 weeks long, May 24 - August 9; tell us what you will be working on each week. (As the summer goes on, you and your mentor will adjust your schedule, but it's good to have a plan at the beginning so you have an idea of where you're headed.) Note that you should probably plan to have something "working and 90% done" by the midterm evaluation (July 5-12); the last steps always take longer than you think, and we will consider canceling projects that are not mostly working by then.

Project Plan:

    1. 1-2 weeks planning the interfaces and the design discussing with the community
    2. 3-4 weeks implementing the interface with doing the changes if need
    3. 5-9 weeks implementing the back end and dependencies
    4. 10-11 introduce to the community and change if need and testings
    • If your project development progresses differently so there is not 90% functionality by the mid-term, you must be in regular contact with your mentor about this. Your mentor must not be surprised about the state of your project when the mid-term comes.
    • If you are not progressed this far in mid-term, you must have a plan with your mentor to fix the situation.
  1. Convince us, in 5-15 sentences, that you will be able to successfully complete your project in the timeline you have described. This is usually where people describe their past experiences, credentials, prior projects, schoolwork, and that sort of thing, but be creative. Link to prior work or other resources as relevant.

I did Google Summer of Code in 2009 and successfully completed it. Also I did online shopping cart using php. At the last moment I have followed Turbo Gear tutorials which we can use in here. Also I can play with python and perl very much. Also I have the knowledge of xml, java-script which usually need in web development. As a university student I have faced many web based and non web based projects with various languages scripts and technologies. Also I have good algorithmic knowledge and practiced many programming techniques.

You and the community

  1. If your project is successfully completed, what will its impact be on the Fedora community? Give 3 answers, each 1-3 paragraphs in length. The first one should be yours. The other two should be answers from members of the Fedora community, at least one of whom should be a Fedora Summer Coding mentor. Provide email contact information for non-Summer Coding mentors.

I think the impact of this will be on the users and the involver who like to join fedora. Usually one who like to get registered usually bother about the user interface, user friendliness and the guidance for the registration. With my experience most registration retarded because of the lack of above reasons. So the main target of this project should be focussed on them. After this project what we can expect

    1. community growth
    2. new ideas ideas from new people
    3. comments on the existing ideas

If I am summarize this project can improve the interaction and the involvement of the fedora users.

  1. What will you do if you get stuck on your project and your mentor isn't around? Well hope community will help me. Also there are some persons who have good knowledge in web development.
  2. In addition to the required blogging minimum of twice per week, how do you propose to keep the community informed of your progress and any problems or questions you might have over the course of the project?

yes, I will surely inform if I am in such case.

Miscellaneous

  1. We want to make sure that you are prepared before the project starts : I am prepared for the project I refresh my knowledge of my python, java-script, html ,xml etc..
    • Can you set up an appropriate development environment? I use my computer for several years and I have all the development environment installed. If it is need new tools I can install them.
    • Have you met your proposed mentor and members of the associated community? yes, I speak with him and get some ideas about the project as well as proceedings.
  2. What is your t-shirt size? Large
  3. Describe a great learning experience you had as a child. Google Summer of Code 2009
  4. Is there anything else we should have asked you or anything else that we should know that might make us like you or your project more? I can make things happen.
