As mentioned in the bug for the anaconda portion (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=485995), there are some concerns about exposing this as a clickable option in anaconda because UI-wise, it really doesn't fit in with the other things we have present. Providing a ready-to-use kickstart config and instructions seem like much more what people who are interested in this are going to want anyway -- katzj
Minimal installation using graphical install
Ok, I've made minimal installations by deselecting all the packages while customizing an installation without any of the preset configurations.
Is this list consistent with that kind of installation? I think it installed 600 mb but I'm not sure about the package list...
It would be cool if the "minimal installation" preset came back... I remember it from Fedora Core 1 and 2... I think... Renich 07:55, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
Setting up a system without X from graphical install
When I'm using the graphical install of the current Fedora 11 preview netinstall image and select only "Basis" it still installs GNOME and X and so on, a total of about 525 packages. That's weird, I really didn't check anything except "Basis", not even "Hardware support".

Virtualization
Recently, I've been dealing with Amazon EC2 and Rackspace's cloud. I think they need assistance with the package selection and service configuration... they need a minimal edition ;). There are certain things they don't need (the kernel, for example) so, this merits an expansion of this really cool feature in order to benefit the virtualization guys, no?... Features to be added
Well, I was talking to a Mandriva specialist. He says they have 3 minimal "flavors":
- Completely minimal: installs the most essential packages (not even urpmi; their package manager)
- Standard minimal: very similar to our minimal installation
- Not-so-minimal Minimal (with X): Installs X
I just wanted to tell you this because, I think, we could learn a bit from them. Maybe we should talk to the anaconda guys to see if they can include these options during installation. Renich 17:58, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
