Un Core Korean TrueType fonts

Description

The UN fonts package is a longtime Korean favorite, with users going as far as boycotting distributions that omit it. It's a big font set (6 fonts in 9 faces).

This is a set of Korean TrueType fonts. Un-fonts come from the HLaTeX type1 fonts made by Koaunghi Un in 1998. They were converted to TrueType with FontForge(PfaEdit) by Won-kyu Park in 2003.

Core families (9 fonts)

  • UnBatang, UnBatangBold: serif
  • UnDotum, UnDotumBold: sans-serif
  • UnGraphic, UnGraphicBold: sans-serif style
  • UnPilgi, UnPilgiBold: script
  • UnGungseo: cursive, brush-stroke

Caveats

  1. UN fonts are probably best packaged by a Korean speaker, but this is not a hard rule.
  2. Upstream needs to be contacted to add the usual FSF font embedding exception to the license.
  3. Upstream needs to be contacted to publish the sfd sources the fonts are built from.
  4. Upstream needs to be contacted to clarify it's position WRT GPL v3.

Additional information

Fontconfig has been changed upstream to use UN as default Korean font set instead of Baekmuk (current Fedora Korean font).
